A protest committee has considered Sapphire Lady's request for redress
in the race of January 23 when she went to recover a crew-woman who
had gone overboard from the yacht Fusion. The finding is that Sapphire
Lady's elapsed time shall be reduced by five (5) minutes and thirty (30)
seconds.
While Fusion broke rule 47.2 by not recovering their crew before
continuing racing, the committee accepted that the reason for not doing
so (it was too dangerous to transfer her from Sapphire Lady to Fusion)
was acceptable. The intent of the rule is that crew should not be
jettisoned for advantage and that was not the case in this instance.
